Connacht Rugby and BLK Sport Launch New Home Jersey

Connacht Rugby in partnership with BLK Sport, have today unveiled their new home jersey ahead of the 2018/19 season. The new jerseys are made with BLK’s exclusive Exotek fabric throughout the main body bound with reinforced cover stitch and lycra paneling. Exotek was created exclusively by BLK to enhance athlete performance, while maximising player comfort and maneuverability.

This year’s jersey maintains its traditional Connacht green look and feel with the introduction of horizontal tonal green and fluro lines, and with fluro piping detailing inspired by the “Grassroots to Green Shirts” vision of Connacht Rugby.  The jersey also features a unique silicon gel logo application and fluro green Connacht branding on the lower back.

The Connacht team will wear the jersey for the first time at the preseason fixtures away to Brive on August 10th and at home to Wasps at Dubarry Park, Athlone on August 18th.

Commenting on the unveiling of the new jersey, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Connacht Rugby Brian Mahony said: “The challenge for BLK was to deliver a jersey that represents Connacht Rugby both on and off the field and yet again they have delivered on both fronts. The unveiling of a new home jersey for Connacht Rugby is always a hugely anticipated event. We expect that this jersey will be particularly popular due to its striking green tone and unique design. As we approach the new season this jersey will be worn with great pride by players on the field and by supporters off it.”

Commenting on the new Connacht Rugby range, Bruce Wood, Brand Manager at BLK Sport, said: “We’re delighted to see the new Connacht Rugby home jersey come to life, we’ve worked closely with Connacht management to develop a new range that we feel the fans will really enjoy. We’ve seen a positive reaction to some of the new styles that have been introduced in to the range. There is a great excitement at the club this pre-season and we’re looking forward to a successful season ahead”

Commenting on the unveiling of the new Connacht Rugby home jersey, Anne-Marie Hanly, Senior Marketing Manager at Intersport Elverys said “It’s fantastic to continue our close relationship with Connacht Rugby. We are proud to be Title Sponsors and Official Retail Partners for the third season. The new home jersey will be available in 22 stores across our network and online along with the new training range which offers fans their favourite styles in fresh new designs, with more to come. We have some exciting competitions and events planned for all supporters as well as exclusive benefits for season ticket holders. We want to wish the team and management the best of luck on the field for the 2018/19 season.”

The new home jersey and training range are exclusively available at Intersport Elverys and online at www.elverys.ie from Friday 3rd August at 10am.

Who’ll Be Semi Final Bound?

The last round of the first ever Super 8’s is upon us. After a less than exhilarating first round in Croke Park, things really heated up in round two when the games were moved around the country. Dublin and Galway have already secured their places in the semi-finals, while Kildare and Roscommon have both already been eliminated with a game to go. However, there are still two places up for grabs and Monaghan, Kerry, Tyrone and Donegal will do everything in their power to snatch the final two places. This weekend is shaping up to have some absolutely cracking games.

Group 1

Group One looks very intriguing ahead of the weekend’s action. There are a number of different things that can happen. Galway have already qualified but need to secure at least a point against Monaghan to secure top spot and avoid Dublin in the semi-final. However if Monaghan win, they will secure top spot. Interestingly, a loss for Monaghan would open the door for Kerry (as long as the beat Kildare by a couple of points) to sneak into the semi-final’s at the Ulster sides expense, meaning Galway would top the group. It’s really all to play for and with both games being played at 6PM on Saturday evening, it could really go down to the wire.

Group 2

Group two is much more straight forward. Dublin are on 4 points and have topped the group, due to the fact that they have a better head to head record against both Donegal and Tyrone after beating both. Dublin’s game against Roscommon pretty much a dead rubber at Croke Park (aside from the fact that Mayo against Kildare in the U20’s Final is on before it). Donegal against Tyrone is a straight forward shoot out, like a traditional quarter final game. The winners will progress to face the team that come out on top of Group One in the semi-final. That game should be a belter.

It will be fascinating to see how both groups work out. We look forward to looking on from afar!

Irish Teams Rugby Sevens World Cup Journey

The Irish Men’s and Women’s rugby sevens teams travelled to San Francisco last week, with high hopes of achieving good results at the World Cup and they did not disappoint. As the two team’s main sponsors, we were watching on with excitement as well as nervousness and we’re extremely proud of how the two teams fared! The men did fantastically well and won the Challenge Trophy (finishing 9th out of 24 overall) on Sunday after beating Australia in the final. The women’s team also performed magnificently well finishing 6th overall, which is their best ever result in a World Cup! Beating one of the favourites England in the last 16 was a great result and springboard for the rest of the tournament. The two teams should be very proud of themselves and build on this success going forward. The sky is the limit of what these two teams can achieve in the future!

Both the men’s and women’s World Cup Sevens competitions were won by New Zealand.
