      About Katie

Katie hails from Clarinbridge in Co. Galway and rows out of Galway Rowing Club. She currently represents Ireland in the PR2 W1x category.

She began rowing in 2013 after watching the Paralympics the previous year in 2012. She attended a Talent ID day with the intention of looking at horse riding but tried out rowing, was asked back to a training camp and the rest is history!

She has become a huge success in her field and previously finished 6th place in the A Final in the World Rowing Cup in 2013 in Eton. Katie has also won gold at the Henley Women’s Regatta and at the Home International Regatta and has also set two world records on ERG, the first in 2015 over 1km the second over 2km in 2021.

After taking a short break, in 2019 she returned to rowing and came third in the World Championships in Linz. Katies goals are to be able to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympics with her rowing partner Steven McGowan where they hope to qualify this summer in Belgrade, Serbia. In 2022 Katie and Steven also made history by forming Ireland’s first para-rowing crew.

We are excited to support and be part of Katie’s Paralympic journey. Speaking with Katie she had the following advice for anyone starting out or evening continuing on their training journey “set yourself small goals, and achieve them bit by bit. When there is a day or a week that doesn’t go to plan it’s important to reset and refocus those goals. If you need a session off to reset, then do that and start fresh the next day or week”

Make sure to stay tuned for more from Intersport Elverys Brand Ambassador Katie O’Brien and for the latest in training apparel, footwear and equipment visit Elverys.ie

It features a stripped-back, clean design that honours the traditional colours of green and red, while continuing to be one of the most recognisable jerseys for Irish people around the globe.

Our partnership with Intersport Elverys has developed over many years and look forward to working with Intersport Elverys in the years to come.  Their support has been a key pillar in highly competitive performances of our Mayo teams.  Mayo’s loyal supporters have been instrumental over the years and Mayo GAA are sincerely indebted for this support as we look forward to the season ahead”

Philip Staunton, Head Teamsports Buyer Intersport Elverys, commented, “Intersport Elverys is delighted to be entering our 26th season supporting Mayo GAA. The journeys and adventures we’ve had with players and supporters since 1998 has been the greatest pleasure and we look forward to the latest chapter of our partnership. We take great pride being based in the beating heart of Mayo with our expanding Head Office in Castlebar and four stores county-wide that intertwine us with the local community and understand what Gaelic Games mean in Mayo. The responsibility of being the chosen destination for young footballers, hurlers, and camogie players to try on the Mayo shirt they aspire to wear at senior level is an honour for Intersport Elverys. We wish all teams well this coming season.”

Mayo LGFA Chairperson Declan Kennedy, has said, “Once again Mayo LGFA are delighted to come together with Mayo GAA and Mayo Camoige to launch this jersey together with our title sponsor Intersport Elverys who have supported us over the past number of years. We are also boosted by the fact that Portwest are continuing their support of Mayo LGFA and will be featured on this new jersey. It is positive to have successful Mayo businesses backing Mayo LGFA both on and off the field while also working tirelessly to unite our supporters who are the foundation of our organisation. We’re thankful to all our supporters, including our generous sponsors, who are as passionate about the sport as we are. Here’s to 2023 in the Green and Red!”

Rosemary Smith, Mayo Camogie Chairperson, said “We are excited to enter 2023 our third year playing at adult level. From Portwest Rachel Davoren, Managing Director of Portwest Ireland, commented, ‘We are delighted to see the launch of the second iteration of the Mayo jersey with Portwest across the back. The partnership has been really positively received by our customers and colleagues alike and we look forward to continuing to work with Mayo GAA and Intersport Elverys on this. It has led to some great initiatives, such as our current Play for a Day Campaign which allows primary school children to be in with a chance to win a training session with Mayo GAA senior players. Community projects such as this one are why we got involved in the first place, as the GAA brings so much to the community within Mayo and Portwest are proud to help develop this alongside them.’

Enda Doherty, Marketing Manager from O’Neills, has said, “We’re proud to produce the Mayo jersey for the 2023 season. Canterbury Unveils New ‘Made Stronger’ Ireland Rugby Home Jersey at Intersport Elverys

Canterbury Unveils New ‘Made Stronger’ Ireland Rugby Home Jersey

New Design Inspired by Ireland’s First Ever Test Match

Canterbury, the official kit partner to Irish Rugby, has revealed the new Ireland Rugby Home jersey that will be worn throughout the 2022/23 season, plus a range of training wear for all fans of the game.

The Men’s and Women’s team replica jerseys are available from 23 June through the IRFU’s Official Sports Retail Partner Intersports Elverys, in store and via Elverys.ie, and on Canterbury.com.

The design of this year’s kit heroes the strength and unity of Irish players, fans and supporters against tough competitors, as both the Men’s and Women’s teams prepare for key test matches this summer. The Ireland Rugby Home Test jersey features Canterbury’s strongest ever neckline, first seen on The British and Irish Lion’s Test jersey last summer. A subtle hoop pattern gives the jersey a modern twist, reminiscent of the stripes worn by the first ever Irish test rugby team who took to the field against England in February 1875. Deep Mint is used as a bright, energising new shade of green across both the Men’s and Women’s jerseys.

Canterbury prides itself on making elite performance kit for some of the toughest teams in rugby. The durable, quick-drying and moisture wicking VapoDri+ material gives a premiere performance, while the offset raglan sleeve flexes effortlessly, offering maximum flexibility when the ball is in play. With an eye on the environment, the jersey is made from part-recycled fabric.

Underlined with the words ‘Made Stronger’, the new campaign celebrates the incredible Irish rugby supporters who are known all over the world for their passion, sense of fun and commitment to the game.

The newly designed jersey will be worn proudly for the first time by the men’s team in their midweek game against the Maori All Blacks on 29th June, before it’s worn for their first test against the New Zealand in Eden Park on 2nd July.

Irish supporters can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their heroes in Canterbury’s Ireland Home Pro Fit jersey, an Official replica of the Test Jersey, as well as items from the new pro-performance training and supporter range. The supporter range incorporates everyday comfort and style and is available for men, women and children to wear, both on and off the pitch.

Commenting on the launch of the new range, Simon Rowe, Head of Global Sports Marketing at Pentland Brands, said: “This kit marks the ninth year of our partnership with the IRFU, and we’ll be with the Irish fans cheering on the teams in Japan and New Zealand as they look to show the world that Ireland is ‘Made Stronger’.

IRFU Chief Commercial Officer Padraig Power said: “We are delighted to unveil our new range of Canterbury kit ahead of an exciting year for Irish Rugby. We are really looking forward to seeing our men’s and women’s teams wearing the jersey with pride, both in New Zealand and in Japan over the coming months.

The IRFU are hugely grateful to Canterbury for their long-standing support of the IRFU and Irish Rugby. In our view Canterbury make the world’s best rugby kit and we are sure that Irish fans will really enjoy wearing the new range and showing their support for all our Teams at home and abroad.”

Philip Staunton, Head Buyer – Team Sports, Intersport Elverys said: “The Made Stronger mantra of this season’s range is a great reflection of the hard work and strength that is at the core of our relationship with Canterbury and the IRFU. We pride ourselves on being the local sports store in communities across Ireland and being the appointed destination where a young supporter picks up their first Irish Rugby jersey is a responsibility Intersport Elverys doesn’t take lightly.

The exciting tours this summer will hopefully inspire more kids to dream of wearing the Irish jersey one day. We have great confidence the latest offering will deliver a diverse and desirable range of options for all supporters with a pulsating year on the horizon beginning in New Zealand and Japan.”

The new Ireland Rugby range is available from Elverys.ie, in store and on Canterbury.com. The Canterbury Ireland Alternate Rugby jersey, as well as a further selection of supporter and training wear, will be released later in the year.
