Potential World Cup Stars

The FIFA World Cup is regarded as the most prestigious tournament in world football. It makes people dream. The joy of winning it will send one country into a frenzy of unparalleled delight. Over the course of the next few weeks, the best players on the planet will be pitted against each other, striving to bring glory to their home nation. The whole world will be watching.

Nearly every World Cup tournament unearths new stars. In 2014 it was Colombian James Rodriguez, while in 2010 it was Germany’s Thomas Muller. Who will it be this time? Here at Intersport Elverys Towers we are trying to use our crystal ball to see into the future and predict which players will be the ones to watch.

The young French star Kylian Mbappe is already a household name after bursting onto the World stage last year, when he was one of the main factors propelling Monaco to the semi-finals of the Champions league. Since then, he has moved onto the glitz and glamour of PSG, initially on loan but this summer he is poised to complete the transfer for a fee of around €180 million, making him the second most expensive footballer in history. This summer’s World Cup in Russia could be the perfect platform for Mbappe to skyrocket himself to become a fully fledged superstar, by leading a hugely talented French team to World Cup glory.

Timo Werner, the RB Leipzig front-man is being touted as the man who will be the focal point of the German attack. The defending Champions have a wealth of attacking options, but it appears that the 22 year old Werner will be the main man up top. With a return 7 goals in 12 internationals, as well as having won the Confederation Cup in Russia last summer, it is easy to see why. The Germans a never too far away from major finals and this summer may be no different. Werner could be a major golden boot candidate and it is well worth keeping an eye on him over the next few weeks.

Everyone knows that Argentina already have one superstar in Lionel Messi, but another player who could reach his performance levels is Juventus forward Paolo Dybala. The silky forward appears a little Messi-esque and scored 26 times for his club this season. He will be a vital cog in the Argentina team as they chase their first major tournament win since 1993. If Dybala and Messi can strike up a good partnership, there are not many defences in the World that will be able to stop them. With so much attention going to be focused on Messi, Dybala may be given the room to punish opponents and light up the World Cup.
