Who’ll Be Semi Final Bound?

The last round of the first ever Super 8’s is upon us. After a less than exhilarating first round in Croke Park, things really heated up in round two when the games were moved around the country. Dublin and Galway have already secured their places in the semi-finals, while Kildare and Roscommon have both already been eliminated with a game to go. However, there are still two places up for grabs and Monaghan, Kerry, Tyrone and Donegal will do everything in their power to snatch the final two places. This weekend is shaping up to have some absolutely cracking games.

Group 1

Group One looks very intriguing ahead of the weekend’s action. There are a number of different things that can happen. Galway have already qualified but need to secure at least a point against Monaghan to secure top spot and avoid Dublin in the semi-final. However if Monaghan win, they will secure top spot. Interestingly, a loss for Monaghan would open the door for Kerry (as long as the beat Kildare by a couple of points) to sneak into the semi-final’s at the Ulster sides expense, meaning Galway would top the group. It’s really all to play for and with both games being played at 6PM on Saturday evening, it could really go down to the wire.

Group 2

Group two is much more straight forward. Dublin are on 4 points and have topped the group, due to the fact that they have a better head to head record against both Donegal and Tyrone after beating both. Dublin’s game against Roscommon pretty much a dead rubber at Croke Park (aside from the fact that Mayo against Kildare in the U20’s Final is on before it). Donegal against Tyrone is a straight forward shoot out, like a traditional quarter final game. The winners will progress to face the team that come out on top of Group One in the semi-final. That game should be a belter.

It will be fascinating to see how both groups work out. We look forward to looking on from afar!
