Press Release 20/3/2019

ATHLETICS IRELAND JOIN FORCES WITH INTERSPORT ELVERYS AND IRISH RUNNER MAGAZINE TO LAUNCH A CAMPAIGN TO GET IRELAND RUNNING

Intersport Elverys and Irish Runner Magazine have partnered up with Athletics Ireland to launch a Get Ireland Running Campaign aimed at doing just that. One of the key objectives of Athletics Ireland is to promote health and fitness of the population as a whole, and the Get Ireland Running Campaign seeks to promote the health and wellbeing benefits associated with running. The campaign is aimed at encouraging those currently not active to get started and become part of the over 300,000 strong running community in Ireland.

Hamish Adams, the CEO of Athletics Ireland welcomed the launch of the campaign saying: “Athletics Ireland is delighted to partner with Intersport Elverys and Irish Runner Magazine to encourage people of all ages to get involved in exercise. Athletics Ireland has a mission to support and develop athletics across all ages, disciplines, and abilities and to contribute positively to increasing physical activity levels across the entire population. Our clubs are a great starting point for anyone thinking about getting involved in running, with many running Fit4Life, Couch to 5k, and beginner programmes, so make sure to contact your local Athletics Club.”

Speaking on the new partnership with Intersport Elverys and Irish Runner Magazine, Adams added: “It is fantastic to have Intersport Elverys support the campaign. Their wide-reaching network of stores will provide a huge benefit in helping us encourage people to get started.

Our friends in Irish Runner have long been the voice of Athletics in Ireland and it’s great to have them share our passion for breaking down barriers and making it possible for everyone to take part in running.”

Athletics Ireland caters for people from the ages of 8 – 80 through a range of localised programmes which actively engage over 100,000 people daily, and the new partnership with Intersport Elverys will provide an added voice in the local community.

Marketing Manager at Intersport Elverys, Anne Marie Hanly said; “Intersport Elverys shares this vision and commitment in helping people to improve their physical activity regardless of whether they are looking to run their first ever kilometre or take on the challenge of a half marathon. With more than 50 stores right across Ireland, we feel we are ideally placed to support the campaign as a trusted source of expert advice to both the casual running community as well as seasoned athletes. We are excited to see this campaign come to life and to work with Athletics Ireland and Irish Runner Magazine in encouraging more people to run, run more and run with others.”

Bernie Commins, Editor at Irish Runner Magazine said: “This is really exciting campaign to be involved in and we look forward to working with Intersport Elverys and Athletics Ireland. We all have a shared vision in terms of promoting running right across Ireland and we hope that this campaign will inspire people to take the first step and get involved.”

The campaign which gets underway on March 21th will feature a social media campaign supported by a series of online articles and in store promotions offering tips and advice for those looking to start on their running journey, as well as those looking to get back into running. As part of the campaign there will also be an opportunity for people to enter the Great Athletics 10K Giveaway for a chance to win one of the over 200 prizes aimed encouraging people to get up and running.

At Intersport Elverys we are a destination for all things running from clothing, footwear, accessories,  to nutrition, supports and tech.  On top of our partnership with Athletics Ireland and Irish Runner magazine we have been working closely with Brooks and Asics, two of the most well recognized brands in the running community right now. Brooks as a running brand believe their purpose is to inspire everyone to run and be active, they believe a run can flat out change a day, a life, the world. Asics was founded on the belief that the way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. These are key messages that we strive to get across to our customers on a daily basis in store and online.

Our goal is to bring this campaign to life with the help of Athletics Ireland, Brooks and Asics through informative content and tips as well as providing runners with the right running gear that suit them. We have over 50 stores across Ireland with excellent running advisers working in each of them, all with the same belief that the runner always comes first. This is something that our partners and the brands that we are working with on Get Ireland Running all have in common.

Here at Intersport Elverys we know getting the right footwear is an important process for any runner and we provide unique techniques along with the latest technologies in store to make sure each running shoe meets your needs. Our team will take you through a series of steps to figure out your foot type with the first step always being getting to know you as a runner. The beauty of running is it starts right outside your front door and Get Ireland Running is a celebration of that simple fact.
